Environment Canada Initiates Consultations with Canadians on Sustainable Development
Here in Edmonton-Strathcona, we greatly value our environment. We are also concerned with long term economic sustainability.
On March 15, 2010 Canada's Environment Minister Jim Prentice launched online public consultations on a proposed new government-wide strategy to improve how the environment is considered in policy and program development.
The consultation paper, Planning for a Sustainable Future: A Federal Sustainable Development Strategy for Canada, aims to strengthen sustainable development planning and reporting practices within the federal government.
"The Government of Canada is strongly committed to improving environmental sustainability for the benefit of Canadians now and in the future," said the Honourable Jim Prentice. "Our goal is to provide meaningful results and to be more accountable to Canadians in our efforts to promote environmental sustainability. We welcome and encourage comments and feedback from Canadians."

The deadline for submitting comments is July 12, 2010. Following consultations, a summary of the input received will made available online.
