Minister of Finance Initiates Consultations with Canadians on national Retirement Income System
Four million Canadians are now over the age of 65, and many of them live right here in Edmonton-Strathcona. Our government must stand up for pensioners and those who rely on our retirement income system. This is
important in Edmonton-Strathcona, and important to Canada. This is a priority for me.
Today (March 24, 2010) Canada's Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty announced the launch of online consultations and a series of cross-country roundtable discussions, speaking engagements and town hall meetings to gather input from Canadians on ensuring the ongoing strength of Canada's retirement income system.
The consultations will inform discussions at the next meeting of federal, provincial and territorial Ministers of Finance in May, where the retirement income system will be a key agenda item.
"Canadians work hard to realize their retirement dreams," said Minister Flaherty. "Our government will be giving Canadians an unprecedented opportunity to provide direct input on the future security and soundness of Canada's retirement income system."
I would like to hear from you about this.
Please send me your thoughts on how we should be strengthening our retirement income system.
I also encourage you to respond to the government's online consultations. Individuals interested in participating in the online consultations are invited to do so through the following link to the Department of Finance website:
